How often have you wondered precisely what to do about a wobbly stile or a blocked footpath? What is the precise legal situation and who should do what to sort things out?
Here is a Link to a guide to help you. It covers a range of scenarios common to the public rights of way network. It is mainly for members of Essex Ramblers, particularly our Parish Path Adopters, but we want all our members to report faults when they find them. We also hope that walkers who are not our members and parish councillors responsible for rights of way will find it helpful so please pass it on to anyone you think might find it useful, whether or not they are Ramblers’ members.
All faults need to be reported using Essex Highway’s Fault Reporting System, otherwise they will not be accepted

Our Footpath Maintenance Working Party did a Great Job recently clearing an overgrown footpath here. The problem was reported using the method described below and the task handed out to our group.

Report a problem with a Public Right of Way (PROW)
1. Access the Essex County Council Page for reporting PROW Issues.
2. Click on the Relevant Category i.e. Vegetation, Signage, Bridges, Stiles etc. You may be prompted to select Sub Categories
3. You will be presented with a map and a request to enter a Post Code or address. Ignore the Post Code Field (you probably don't know it anyway) and concentrate on the map.
4. Keep zooming in on the map at the location of your report until you are able to receive a response to a click at a point on the map. This is usually when the map background turns green. The response takes the form of a box giving you the footpath number and asking you to confirm the location.
5. Confirm the location and then fill in the form with as much detail as possible. You should, if possible, upload some photos to supplement your information.
6. You will receive a confirmation email with a Reference Number which you can use to check the progress of your report.

In the last few months, our Working Party has repaired and replaced stiles, installed new way markers and cleared several overgrown paths.
We are affectionately known as “The Bramblers.” We are always looking for Volunteers. No experience is required, but if you have some Trade skills, your help would be much appreciated
